Never Romance A Rake by Liz Carlye

In Never Romance a Rake, the third book in one of Liz Carlyle's most recent series of books, we have the story of Kieran the jaded Baron Rothwell. Rothwell has never catered to the demands of society. He has spent his entire time as Baron practically drunk and spending his time where no proper member of society would go. At least until he meets Camile Marchand and literally wins her in a card game with her father. In Camile, Rothwell meets his match, a woman with her own demons who is not afraid of Rothwell's reputation. Rothwell's lifestyle means very little to Camile. She needs a husband and she needs one quickly. At least Rothwell is willing and in the end she will have the freedom she wants so desperately. Will Rothwell and Camile be able to go beyond their past and their agendas and find a love that could save them both.

Never Romance A Rake is my favorite in this series so far. Though I enjoyed all three, books the first book, Never Lie To A Lady, was a bit long winded and second book, Never Deceive A Duke, was an interesting story but for some reason I was never invested in the hero and heroine of that story. But Camile and Rothwell were completely different. I really wanted to know how Carlyle would manage two bring two emotional damaged people to a point where they could fall in love and then fight to stay together despite the demons that plagued their past.

As in the other two book the writing was excellent. Carlyle was able to pen page turners. Even with the issues I had with the first two books I could not put them down. I enjoyed Carlyle's story telling and wanted to continue on with the story of these two families. I was amazed at the depth in Rothwell. You sensed it in all the other books but she really took that character and ran with him. He made a guy that would be hard to love in normal circumstances not just likable but lovable and Camile was his perfect mate. Haunted by her own past but still alble to see the good in him and possibility of a future with a man that seemed to have no future.

I rated the series as a whole a 4 with this particular book rating a 4.5.
